WA NEWSPAPERS – WEST WEEKEND MAGAZINE, 19 DECEMBER 2009
Our aim was to make a light bodied wine showcasing the fruit characters of the malbec and merlot varieties which will complement the delicious seafood we enjoy in Western Australia,
Especially the garlicky bouillabaisse which can be caught, created and cooked within the Margaret River district.
REVIEWS
ROB BROADFIELDS – WINE “FIND” OF THE YEAR – Victory Point has captured the attributes of southern French rose – good up front fruit, crisp finish, zesty aromatics and a light touch- yet it remains steadfastly Australian.
Based on an unusual blend of merlot and malbec; it has good focus and thrust to the red berry flavours, and a convincing, dry finish. ….90 points

BIG SAVING OF 45% ON MARGARET RIVER CABERNET BLEND AT $16.67 PER BOTTLE
Reviews of 2004 vintage:
A substantial wine with deep fruit intensity and robust tannins. It's largely cabernet sauvignon with smaller amounts of malbec, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Beautifully balanced with a long persistent finish. realy coming into its own with some bottle age.
Ray Jordan's Guide to West Australian Wine
“…elegant, smooth and supple; the fruit flavours have meshed well; good balance and length, simple needing a little more depth for maximum points.… 91/100 Drink 2012”
James Halliday, 2008 Wine Companion ….
A small quantity of this vintage was held back to review its development. It is now released exclusively through Shortcut. This is a great opportunity to taste this very good vintage from Margaret River.
Tasting notes from the winemaker, Keith Mugford
Colour and condition:
The colour has a youthful deep brick red hue and the condition is bright.
Nose:
The wine makes a strong statement of lifted primary fruit characters with a vibrant display of dark fruit aromas like mulberry, black and red currants and blueberries, with lifted violet and briary notes. Underneath there is complexity from soft, slightly charry oak and some of Cabernet Sauvignon's leathery notes.
Palate:
The theme of lively fruit characters continues on the palate, where generous red and black fruit flavours fill the front and mid-palate, sitting over medium-to-full body and fine texture. This freshness is highlighted by good acidity and then the wine displays good length as it flows to a finish that combines of charry oak notes and leathery characters. The grape and oak tannins are firm but nicely balanced.

THIS HAS TO BE GREAT VALUE AT ONLY $12.50 PER BOTTLE
Proving to be an underrated vintage, there were some producers, like us, who got the grapes ripe and produced some classic flavoured cabernet based wines.
This was recognized by the judges at the 2009 London International Wine Challenge who awarded a Bronze medal and said “pure, relaxed, lively, lovely juicy tangy blackcurrant. Nicely evolving, good wine.”
COLOUR: Dark red in colour with purple tinges.
NOSE: A nice mixture of fruit aromas dominated with plums and redcurrants all intermingled with background characters of cedary oak, earthy dark chocolate and fennel seed.
PALATE: The palate, of this medium bodied wine, has bright lively fruit such as juniper berries, which is of good length and has a lingering finish. Chalky tannins are a bit forward at this stage but will intergrate well into this wine with more bottle age. This wine is a classical “Bordeaux” style in that it is all about finesse, fine fruit style and intergration, not fruit driven dominance, therefore making for a subtle fine wine experience for the consumer.
CELLAR: This wine will be at its best with 5 to 7 years of cellaring. | |
